Singer Laren puts artist George Hendrik Breitner in the limelight with the exhibition 'Breitner. Artist'.

George Hendrik Breitner (1857 - 1923) is one of the most important Dutch artists of the late 19th century. In recent decades, his work has mostly been highlighted from his urban subjects and as a photographer. It earned him nicknames like 'the painter of Amsterdam' and 'Dutch impressionist'. Due to this 'restrictive' view, we have lost sight of Breitner's extraordinary artistic qualities.

Guest curator Suzanne Veldink, in the first monographic retrospective since 1994, goes back to the primal artist that is Breitner. Ahead of the troops, he took the liberty of expressing his feelings in colour and in a characteristic, powerful handwriting. In the exhibition, Veldink shows how pioneering and influential Breitner was. She presents a new, overarching vision of one of Holland's greatest masters.

Exhibition 'Breitner. Schilderbeest' puts Breitner's development with more than 70 paintings and works on paper in a new perspective, by combining real public favourites, such as Breitner's kimono girls, and more unknown works.
